HELP WANTED HELP WANTED
To all members
Last newsletter we asked if anyone could help as secretary. There was no response from anyone. This is very disappointing. The club needs a secretary this year and a president next year. If you are at all interested in what is involved please ring one of the committee. Help to start in the job is available.

NORTH SHORE UPDATE
We have heard rumors that the police and council are actively and agressively down on the beaches demanding people dress. They appear to be preying on peoples ignorance of where and how the by-law is applied as was indicated at the council meetings. Rumors are no good to us. Write down first hand what is happening and let us know. We will not use your name if you wish but we want facts of what is going on.
I hope you read the letter from Marion White which says that nudity could be acceptable between high and low tide. Another letter we have says that the council inspectors will only be acting on complaints so ask for the specific complaint.
PUT BUMS ON BEACHES
APOLOGY
The last newsletter included a draft letter which was presented to the A.G.M. This letter had errors in it (the NZNF had discussed the bylaw with us). This letter was being rewritten before taking further action in accordance with instructions from the A.G.M. It was included in the newsletter by mistake.
We apologise to the NZNF for this inclusion and have taken steps to see that it will not happen again in the future.

CHRISTMAS PARTY AND BARBECUE:
John & Fran are again making their barbecue area available to the club. Date Saturday 5th December. Time 6 p.m. onwards. BYO meat and beverages and a salad to share. Please phone Fran or John on (09) 576 5219 and let them know you are coming. This is held in a private sheltered area and club uniform is OK. The party is on no matter what the weather does. Come and enjoy yourselves.

Letter to North Shore City Council.
The committee have decided not to send a copy of the letter sent to the NZNF to NSCC as required by the AGM. Most of the members at the AGM have not had dealings with the council and would not appreciate that it would be perceived that we were arguing with the NZNF. The council could use this to our disadvantage. Instead we have sent a letter pointing out that we are affiliated to the NZNF but are not run by them. We are an autonomous body and are quite entitled to have different views from the NZNF and were entitled to make the submission we did. We also consider that they have not fulfilled the conditions of the NZNF submission and cannot therefore imply that the NZNF support the by-law and tell us that we are to do the same.

RECENT EVENTS
Pre Summer Meeting
Wellington members met at Bill's home at Eastbourne on Saturday night, 19 September.
Frank reported on the AGM at Auckland, and subsequent events.
The Summer Calendar was discussed at length, and many events have been planned to cater for a wide range of interests, in addition to beach days, including bush walks, weekend camps, etc. These have been listed on Bill's calendar, if you need more information, phone Bill at (04) 562-8514.
COMING EVENTS
URUTI POINT
Uruti point has been planned for the weekend of 28/29 November, and weather permitting, this is a great place to camp. If the weather should go bad, all is not lost as there is low cost accommodation on a farm nearby. Bill has full details. Campers need to take all their own needs, including water, as this is a remote spot. Be sure to phone Bill if you intend to be there, so that he can inform you of any last minute changes or cancellations.
Directions: Turn off State Highway 2, north of Masterton, into Te Oreore Rd. Drive out towards Riversdale Beach, turning right 3 Km before the beach into Homewood Rd (this is about 50 Km from Masterton). Go 7 Km, turn left at the sign to Uruti Point and drive 3 Km along a dirt track, passing through 3 gates. Leave the gates as you find them. Park on the tussock about 300 m beyond the barn (just before the track turns down to the beach).
PEKA PEKA
Peka Peka beach days have been arranged as previously. Check with Geoff if you have any doubt about the weather on the Kapiti Coast. |
RANGI WOODS CAMP
Rangi Woods Camp will be held on Wellington's Anniversary Weekend. Neil, Trevor and John were appointed to co-ordinate the event. We have struck a flat fee of $25 per adult, children free, families (ie mum, dad and the kids) at $40.
A separate sheet with directions, and all other relevant information is included with this newsletter. If you have any doubts, or would like to talk to someone about the weekend, dont hesitate to phone Neil at (04) 383-7806, or Bill at (04) 562-8514. All bookings and associated arrangements are to be made through Neil as detailed on the yellow form.
Anyone who went to Rangi Woods last year will tell you what a great place it is. The nearby Pohangina River has a good 'beach' for sun bathing, when you are not swimming in the crystal clear water. On the other side of the river, you can have fun and games in the mud.
Around the camp you can go for walks in the bush, or play games on the lawn. At night there is a glow worm grotto to visit, so bring a good torch to find your way there.
Accommodation is excellent, there are plenty of single beds complete with mattress. The kitchen has two large ovens, cooking tops, etc. adequate to feed large numbers. The ablutions have hot showers and flushing toilets.
A large hall provides a great place for evening events, and we can be sure Bill will have something in mind for Saturday night.
BREAKER BAY
We have planned for an 'open day' at Breaker Bay on Sunday, 6 December. If the weather is against us, we will try again the following Sunday.
Let's hope the clouds will have rolled back by the time our calendar comes into effect.
