Taharoa Domain, Kai Iwi Lakes

The distance from Dargaville is about 34 km.

Where:-

From State Highway 12, 25 km north of Dargaville, turn west at Maropiu and follow signs 9 km to the Taharoa Domain. Go to Kai Iwi, the smaller lake on the right as you drive in, for a quieter time.

What's there:-

Two large camping areas among pine trees. Popular with textiles, but no worries about naturists. Toilets at the domain, water from the lake. No dogs and no boats. Rainbow trout fishing. A 2 km walking track goes over sandhills to Baylys Beach. Supplies at Kaihu, 16 km, or store at Mamaranui, 11 km.

Comment:-

Mar 00, NJ - Kai Iwi Lake (the first as you drive in) has lovely warm water. A very popular holiday spot, however, nobody was worried.

Nov 05, BG - The caretakers/rangers may make their disapproval of nude use of Pine Beach (the main one) known, but they don't stop you.
