Dear Friends, 5th December, 1977.

How are you all? With all these lovely weekends we are having, you must be getting tanned and fit by now. All of our weekend activities with the exception of Grahams Beach have been successful.

Our Social was a terrific success, I am sure all who attended enjoyed themselves, which would be about 45 adults and many many children. John Miller did a great job as M.C. for which we thank him and also we would like to thank Lois for organising the kitchen, Trevor for the raffle, Robin for the sound equipment and to everyone who supported the evening.

The filming for the Access Program went according to plan, including good weather and Free Beach Group were well represented on the beach including some members coming from as far afield as the Waikato Group. I noticed none of us were agile enough to play Volley Ball(except Alison) It was pleasant renewing old acquaintances and striking up new ones, (one of the benefits of combined club meetings).

We would like to thank the North Shore Club for their kind invitation over the last season to join them in their hot pool evenings, our members who could get there certainly enjoyed the evenings.

The sale of Tee Shirts is going very well. I omitted to tell you in the last newsletter that children’s sizes are also available at $4.75 ea these and adult sizes at $5.50 can be ordered from me or Eleanor Longley ph. 445480 who is dealing with the Tee Shirts.

Don't forget that Trevor Sampson has kindly offered to store all of the items you have to donate, for the Flea Market sale. Contact him or me if you have anything you wish to get rid of.

As promised in the last Newsletter, information about camping at Thames. The only mod con is a toilet tent, your water requirements from the stream, take everything else you may require or it is back to nature. The property which belongs to one of our members is about 4 kilometres along a rough and twisty metalled road. To get on this road drive through Thames going north just into Tararu, turn right into Victoria Street and bear left, don't go into Dixons Motor Camp, through the ford and you are on the way. (Victoria Street is opposite a Senior Citizens home). If more than 4 or 5 units wish to camp there it would be advisable to leave your cars on the road in the lay-by just past the entrance to the property. It is of course possible to make this a day trip if you have no camping gear.

Now would be a good time to write to your Member of Parliament, pointing out to them how pleasant they would find it, if they had the freedom to choose a part of the beach where nude sunbathing, was the normal activity in that area.

The Committee considered a proposal from an outsider that we could on pre-arranged weekends use the Carlton Lodge and grounds for our activities in return for maintaining the property (working bees). As this is similar to, to many established clubs the Committee could not see any advantage to us in this proposal, after all we are a Free Beach Group.

Robin our Chairman and Country Secretary tells me that membership in the Waikato is really booming, and they are developing into a very active and useful section of Free Beach Group. Well done Charles and the other helpers. Some regions are doing well, while there are others where very little seems to be happening. Come on, Stewart Island!

14th December, 1977.

At our Committee Meeting held last night which was primarily held to discuss a complaint a member had lodged with me "The indiscriminate use of a camera at Motuihe Island". We cannot control members in a public place and their photography, but any member who uses a camera FOR WHATEVER REASON and causes annoyance could have their membership withdrawn. The member in question has received a letter of warning from the Committee.

Yet further information on the tee shirts the sizes are, chi1dren's 8, 10 and 14 years. Adults 92cm, 97cm and 102cm. Sorry I have split the information up.

In trying to keep up our image of being responsible people, could we all carry our litter home at the end of the day, and maybe even leave the beach cleaner than we found it.

Des has yet again produced another interesting and varied Diary for the next two months. Many thanks Des.

I would like to thank everyone who has turned up to the meetings or given support to the Group in anyway no matter how small during this past year. It is from such support and increasing activities that we shall grow stronger.

Everyone on the Committee wishes all our members and friends a Happy Christmas and Good Health and Plenty of Sun in the New Year.

Yours sincerely,
