Dear Friends, 17th August, 1978.

How are you all? fit and well I hope. The summer is not far away now, with Spring just around the corner. The ever lengthening days enabling you to get your Section sorted out to allow you to spend the summer on the beach.

NEWS FROM THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.

Firstly the Committee size was increased to 6 and the top table now reads: Robin Hoare returned as Chairman, Ray Woolhouse returned as Secretary, Marian Woolhouse returned as Treasurer, Lois Kennedy and Trevor Sampson returned to the Committee. We welcome new faces Alison Milne, Ken Nice, Ray Bell and Brian Longley to the Committee, and I would like to thank the two retiring committee members Eleanor Longley and Des Duthie for all their help over the past years and I am sure this goes for everyone else too. I would also like to thank our Auditor Alan, for casting his eyes upon the books.

The Committee extends their grateful thanks to Emiel for the tremendous amount of work he does on our behalf.

We were very pleased to have join us at our meeting Mr and Mrs. Ian Fairbrother, Mr. John Jennings, Mr. Con Chignell and not forgetting Bobbie Smith who are executives and representatives of the New Zealand Nudist Federation. It was also very pleasing to see several of our founder members there and a special thank you to those who came from as far afield as Wellington and Te-Awamutu.

The subject of affiliation did not turn out to be as controversial as I expected. The majority of members present voted in favour of us affiliating with the New Zealand Nudist Federation with a levy rate of 15 cents per adult person. On the question of voting rights, we were assured by the visitors from the N.Z.N.F. that this would be dealt with at the N.Z.N.F. Annual General Meeting which is to be held in Christchurch prior to this years rally at the end of December.

You will be pleased to note that the fees will remain at $2.50. for the next year and are now due.

Also at the A.G.M. John Lowe our Wellington Representative gave us details of a long week-end, organised camp, at the Blue Bay Motor Camp, Mahia Point running the 3rd to 6th February for which the nudist clubs and free beachers have exclusive use of the camp site. (More details about this in the next newsletter) Just a date for you to keep reserved.

I would like to thank Lois and Jenny for doing the tea and biscuits and John Miller for organising and cleaning up the hall for us.

NEWS FROM THE COMMITTEE. The last committee meeting was the 17th July. This was held mainly to decide upon the A.G.M. Agenda, and to suggest a few guidelines for the Local Organisers.

NEWS FROM THE DIARY. The Saunas and Hot Pools still continue to attract many members, but there is plenty of room for more folks at the Swimerama.

Items of special interest to Aucklanders. The Body Workshop have review their prices. They are Men $2. Ladies Free. Teenage Boys $1. Kids Free.

Secondly Clive Green has installed a 6 lamp solarium which should give you a good start on your tan. Stan asks that you bring sun glasses or goggles with you. The lamps are automatically timed.

OTHER ITEMS.

It is pretty definite now that the Access Programme will be televised in the Spring, so all the Local Organisers are asked to prepare their advertising material for their local papers to enable us to be ready and take the opportunity that the programme offers us, for we need to expand and strengthen our County Groups in particular.

As Robin said in his report at the Annual General Meeting, the Nudist Movement is gradually being accepted more and more by the general public and our policy of steady expansion without any notoriety seemed to be the right way to be going on.

Stan, who runs the Clive Green Health Centre on a Sunday night, has kindly submitted a very interesting article "The Benefits of Saunas". This should make you think a little and may even persuade some of us to take a little exercise (including Lois).

Malcolm Scott one of our members and also a member of the South Auckland Nudist Club has sent us details of a trip they are running on the 2th September. See Diary for details. Those members who are interested please contact Malcolm at Waiau-Pa 701. All monies must be in his hand by the 3rd September, 1978. This should be a good evening out with no driving for you.

Marian and I attended an informal evening which the Hamilton Group put on which we enjoyed very much and many thanks must go to Dianne for her hospitality.

The Social that the A.O.H.C. has invited us to, sounds like a good fun evening. Do your best with your costume and try for a prize. See Diary for details and map below.

Don't forget your subscriptions are due now.

Any change of phone number or address, please let me know,

In closing I would like to thank all our members for their support during the past year and hope that they enjoyed the year as much as I did and I wish you the best of health and the best of weather for the forthcoming year.

Yours sincerely,

A little reminder. We are often asked by Officials from Nudist Clubs why don't we screen out members more than we do already. It is not practicable for us to do so to the extent which the Sun Clubs do and our experience has shown that such screening does not always bring the desired result. However, I would like to remind you, should anyone experience any unpleasantness between our members please do not stay away from our meetings and say nothing, but write in to us or your Local Organiser so that some action can be taken.

THE BENEFITS OF SAUNAS.

Most people who take a Sauna, Steam Bath, Cold Plunge or Swirl Pool enjoy the experience and the feeling of well being afterwards, but do not know or could not describe why they feel better.

Here are a few answers as to why taking the waters or hydrotherapy is invigorating.

Overheating the body is a way of inducing an artificial fever and causing therapeutic sweating. The skin is our largest eliminative organ, sometimes known as the third kidney. It is generally considered that the skin should eliminate 30% of the body wastes by way of perspiration.

Due to lack of exercise or physical work most people do not perspire enough, therefore the waste matter or toxins come out of the body in other ways, i.e. as colds, skin sores etc. or get absorbed into the bloodstream causing other disorders.

Taking Saunas or Steam Baths regularly will help to restore and revitalize the cleansing action of the skin.

Other actions caused by sweating and overheating stimulate the metabolic processes and inhibit bacterial growth.

All the vital organs and glands are aided and healing of minor ills assisted. Sweating helps to re-vitalize skin activity and improve circulation.

City dwellers should have saunas regularly to help the elimination of the very harmful effects of lead and carbon monoxide taken in by the skin from high octane fuels and pollutants emitted from motor vehicles and industrial gases.

Steam Baths have a similar effect to Saunas. Cold Plunges act as a tonic on the entire system. They stimulate circulation, increase muscle tone and nerve force. Aid digestion and increase the intake of oxygen. Cold Showers will do the same, to a lesser degree, when taken at home after a hot shower.

When washing the face in the morning use hot water first then rinse several times with cold water and feel the face tingle. It's most invigorating.

A word of warning, people with any heart condition or hypertension should not take the water treatment unless first advised by a doctor.

If you haven't tried Saunas or Steam Baths, do so, you'll enjoy the experience.
