Dear Friends,
The year rolls on and events whiz by. We've had the shortest day, a lovely sunny day here in Auckland, which I hope is a good omen. I know some of us have already been out in the sun to christen the new season.
We also had one long night, when a power failure spoilt things at the sauna - sorry about that, folks!
We've had our last committee meeting, and we're looking forward to seeing some new faces with lots of new talent to take over after the AGM.
Yes, the AGM!!! Roll up everybody, 2 o'clock on Saturday, 22 August at the Scout den in Clive Road, Mt. Eden, just off Mt. Eden Road by the mountain. And please bring a plate of goodies for afternoon tea, to fortify us for the bus trip to Waiwera. Yes! It’s All Go for our Great Annual Event, so pin up the Fred Bear poster on your fridge or notice board, and MAKE SURE YOU COME.

NEWS FROM OZ: |
|
We have heard that in the State of Victoria, ALL beaches have been declared clothes-optional. I wonder why things are so tough for us here. Any comments?
ALF GORRINGE: |
|
We note with regret the passing of a stalwart member of our Group. Alf has been a member for nearly ten years. He worked on the Committee for two years, being Secretary for one year. A familiar face no longer there.
His wife writes as follows:—
'Dear Members,
I expect some one will have seen the notice of Alf's death but I wanted you all to know how much he enjoyed his association with the group over recent years especially the regular Sunday evening gatherings at Clive Green's.
He died while sitting in his chair on the verandah after watching one of the World Cup Rugby matches. I had been in conversation with him just minutes before he died, and he was cheerfully talking of the game.
Yours sincerely,
Edith Gorringe.

TRAMPING: |
|
In the old days, bush walks and tramps were a regular feature of the FBG Diary, and some of us would like to revive these. Most of the tramping haunts are rather populated nowadays, and we would need to keep some of our clothes on, so the walks will probably be scheduled for the spring and autumn when it may not be sunny enough to lie around on the beach. So, if you're a good, keen type - watch for details in your next newsletter.
I hope you are busy getting all your jobs done around the house during the winter, like I am (!) so that you’ll be able to spend lots of time out in the sun when it comes back.
It’s not far away now!
See you,
