Wainui Bay

The distance from Bay of Is, Kerikeri is about 46 km.

Where:-

From State Highway 10, 3 km south of Kaeo and 26 km north of Kerikeri; turn east into Matauri Bay Road and follow signs 20 km through Te Ngaire to the first sign indicating Wainui Bay.

What's there:-

The parking area is a paddock just before the bridge. Clean water is obtainable from a stream. Walk north around rocks to the next beach. (Note that local fishermen tend to arrive at low tide, but they generally walk to the opposite - east side - of the beach.)

Comments:-

Feb 14, JC - Water a bit cold, but still enjoyable. (A mate who vists regularly says he's had no problem.)

Mar 09, AP - No one in the camping ground and no one on the beach, so I had the place to myself and walked nude from the camping ground right to the end of the beach. Great little bay for children, water is flat and warm.

Mar 04, BL - At this beach you are visible to people from the grass reserve, but you're about 100m away. There may be 'textiles' about on the weekends, but during the week we had the place totally to ourselves.
