The Bareskins have organised a truly varied programme for young and old alike. The youngsters will be entertained from 9.30am until 11.00am every day and can take part in the Top Tribes games as well. We have also organised horse rides and other entertainment. There will be videos on three evenings and their own magician on New Years Eve. There will be another magician act for adults, later on New Years Eve.

The hypnotist show is available for all... want to stop smoking?

INTOUCH

We've been promised nude skydivers and, at a small cost, you will be able to have a trial flight in a microlite.

There are massage lessons and aerobics each morning to make you relaxed and fit at the same time.

Supplies will be available from the Trading Post and a lunch bar will be open each day.

Champagne breakfast, Buffalo Spit roast and optional hangi are planned.

The Bareskin Braves from the place of fire-water promise good supplies at reasonable cost and the dancing in the big wigwam will take place on five nights.

Our new place of running water boasts 6 showers and three new toilets which will make thirteen in all. The sports will run to a strict timetable with a non-appearance being a default.

Oh yes, one entertainment spot has yet to be finalised and so must remain a secret, but is guaranteed to give you the biggest shock, you ever received at a Rally!! The only clue is that it has something to do with the spirits.

So come on folks, roll up your teepees, mobilise your covered wagons and get your ass's (sorry horses) to Lake Downs.

BRING IN A FRESH OUTLOOK TO YOUR COMMITTEE!

by Adrianne Caldwell

People join our clubs for social contact, for companionship, and for a feeling of belonging. They can easily go nude without being in a club. For some, the club offers rest and relaxation; for others, an opportunity to do something different, or try their hand at running things.

Club members have a variety of skills and accomplishments to fill every niche in the operation of your club. Friendly chats on the grounds, getting to know people, can unearth talents that could be useful to the expansion of your club.

The committee is the driving force that keeps the club moving, giving power and direction to the life of your club. Being on the committee is a growth experience for most people. Timid members can be encouraged to spread their wings and have a go. You never know who is just longing to be asked to go on the committee. New committee members can have valuable and innovative ideas. They bring in a fresh outlook, whereas long standing members can sometimes dig themselves into a groove that they cannot see out of.

But you do need some veteran members, to give continuity, and to avoid repeating old mistakes. A good balance is a mixture of old and new.

People are all different, everybody's opinion is worth listening to. Attitudes change as time goes by, and what succeeds a few years ago may be quite inappropriate now.

Seek out the views of your new members before they become indoctrinated into your established patterns. They are our hope for tomorrow.

SEMINAR REPORT

There was evident feeling at the seminar that the time is right for a few changes in the nudist club world. It would also appear the social and economic changes in society generally have changed at a more rapid pace than we have.

For instance our rules have proliferated and become more restrictive. This tends to keep people out of the club. "The Devil can quote the Bible for his own purposes."

There was a lot of support for fewer rules and a more open attitude.

At a time when we are faced with more violence, child abuse and stress related disease, the results of a survey of two million people, show nudists suffer less of these maladies.

It would seem therefore we will profit by a more bold and expansive attitude. Furthermore all the speakers at the seminar seemed to endorse this view.

There is a natural fear and suspicion in the movement when the subject of free beaches is raised. The Free Beach Group is affiliated to the NZNF and their aims are the same as ours. To promote the practice of nudism.

I see the wider practice and acceptance are beneficial to clubs. The difficulty we share is getting people through the gate for that first nude experience.

What better place to recruit members than on a beach. The club will always have something unique to offer in terms of facilities and companionship.

The NYC was strongly represented at the seminar and a plea was put out for new leadership involvement. If their performance is an indication, the future is in good hands although they lose Claire Cox their elected Secretary, after Christmas. She has won a years Rotary Exchange scholarship to Canada. Well done Claire.

And was the weekend a success? Well I know more than one person who is a more enthusiastic nudist and club member because of it.

AROUND THE CLUBS

Canterbury Club will celebrate Arbour Day with a weekend of tree planting on 17-18 September. Will you be supporting the environment of your club? The club has also decided that club subscriptions will only be accepted via bank deposit!!

Canterbury also plan a "Full Frontal" attack on the Lake Down Reservation at Christmas! Sarah Wilkinson also contacted the address in the last issue of The Naturist and has names of young people who belong to Nudist Clubs in Europe. Ages 13 - 22. If interested contact Sarah on (03) 830-714). Call her now.

Ro-To-Ta have recently made a video on a weekend when another club visited them. They have already signed up the first family who decided to join their club after watching the video.

The Orchard think this is a fantastic idea and plan to make their own video of their grounds and activities. Philippa in their Windfalls newsletter says "You know, sometimes you take prospective members to view the club grounds and there's only you and the prospective members present. It is sometimes hard to convince them that other members exist. With our new grounds out of town, prospective members can view the grounds without travelling away from their homes or if they joined in the winter months they could see by the click of a button what the grounds looked like bathed in summer sun. Also have you ever tried explaining how to play miniten when you have never played it yourself," she says.

Plan to be at Wanganui over Waitangi weekend next year for the interclub hangi weekend. 4,5,6, February. Diary it now. Come and experience what small club hospitality is all about.

"Fun in the sun" Ro-To-Ta style. To be held over Labour Weekend 22-24 October. Events include a bush band, fly casting, hill climb, knot tying and darts. Children's events include play-dough modelling, softball throwing, races and more. So if you're keen to go ring Reporoa 3837l to book a hangi meal and camp site.

Nelson Club successfully hosted the Upper Moutere Fire Brigade and their families to an afternoon of golf followed by a barbecue.

Waikato Outdoor Society celebrate 21 years on their grounds over Labour Weekend.

Bay of Plenty Club hosted the Movan Club (Motorised Caravans) recently and profited by $260. The Movan Club want to visit the BOP grounds again next year.

We must all be in our lateral thinking mode, making the best of our grounds in the off season. Wellington Club hosted the Wellington Scottish Harriers recently at the end of their run. Hot showers and food in the hall was all that was required but it exposed the club to more members of the public. And what a terrific sunny day it was.

Hawkes Bay have a special "Let's hear it award time" column in each newsletter. The idea is to recognise the 10 - 12 members who help make their club a better place to go to.

And finally, Tindo Teens (South Australia) organised a car wash and afternoon tea recently and made the grand profit of $140. They even sent condolences to those who missed out. They were advised to be at the club earlier next time. Who said teens can't organise themselves?
