Dear Friends, 2nd December, 1978.
How are you all? Now that the summer is here with its lovely weekends, your tan should be coming on by now. I have already managed to peel once and hope you have been more successful.

NEWS FROM THE COMMITTEE.
The Committee approved a circular type letter that Robin and myself sent to all the prospective Parliamentary Candidates which contained our aims and views, and we asked them their opinions in regard to the Police Offences Act. Copies of this letter have also been sent to all the News Media.
Details of the Social were discussed and finalised.
Ken in addition to his work on the Diary has also updated the Beach List.
It was decided to order some more Tee Shirts, including children's.
NEWS FROM THE DIARY.
Our first Long Bay, Tawhitokino Beach, Grahams Beach, Huia Beach and Omaha Beach Trips were all very well attended and everyone enjoyed themselves, Our second Long Bay Trip was when 4ins of rain fell, need I say more.
The Sauna still continues to attract good crowds.
The last night at the Hot Pools was also a successful and pleasant evening and we thank the North Shore Nudist Club for their hospitality and letting us join them in their evenings.
NEWS FROM THE N.Z.N.F.
From the copy which we have received of the remits to be discussed at this years council meeting held immediately prior to the Rally, the rule change remit is in, that is the one which will give us voting rights.
As you may remember the Rally this year is being held down in Christchurch and seeing that I have had no response to my earlier request about getting passes signed, it would seem that most of our members in the North Island could not get space on the ferry as some of us in the Auckland Area have experienced.
NEWS FROM THE TAUPO HOT SPRINGS PURCHASING TRUST.
At a meeting which was held last week and to which our representative Ken attended, several proposals were discussed, but the original idea is the one that still stands. This meeting coincided with the Port Ohope Weekend and Ken reported back that he had had a very enjoyable time meeting many of our Country Members.
NEWS FROM TWO OF OUR COUNTRY AREAS.
Bill and Jane Akensen our new Tauranga Area Organisers have co-opted a committee comprising, David Taylor, Brian Sewell, Marinus Vanderschantz and Sandra Elliott to act as local Secretary.
As you will see from the Diary they intend to be a very active Group and I am sure they will be, particularly with Sandra nudging things along.
Every weekend weather permitting you will find Nudists down on Papamoa Beach, so call in and say hello to them if you are passing by, you will be welcome.
Our other Country Area in the news this time is the Wellington Group. John Lowe has also set up a committee with Robin Hodgins Acting Secretary. In the Diary you will see the Wellington Area are going to be very active, what with their trips to Pekapeka Beach and they are also organising the Free Beach Weekend at Mahia, for which, you should be making definite plans right now.
GENERAL NEWS.
I am repeating the request for Local Organisers or Co-Ordinators particularly in the Hawkes Bay and Christchurch Area to enable our Country Members to take a more active part in the Group.

One of the duties of the Organiser would be to place occasional
advertisements in their local papers. You would be using the Auckland Box No. so your privacy would not be invaded.
We have had a request from the N.Z. Naturist for photographs and articles for the magazine. When you submit photographs to them don't forget to get permission from everyone appearing in the photograph to be published.
For Members not receiving the Directory the Local Organisers outside the Auckland Area are: Northland - Stan & Raewyn Armiger ph Kaitaia l052. Bay of Plenty - Bill and Jane Akensen - ph Tauranga 71701. Wellington John Lowe - ph 899871. Waikato - Charles Saggers, 218 Papamoa Beach Road, R.D.7. Te Puke. Charles has some camping sites available at a very reasonable rate. Rotorua - Linsey Cranshaw - 82316 Rotorua.
Don't forget we have Tee Shirts and stickers still for sale. The new round N.Z.N.F. stickers are very nice and only 30 cents each. Our stickers (Fred Bear) still sell at 50 cents, worth every cent.
REMINDER - Litter on Beaches. I feel sure I hardly need remind you to take your litter home with you and to leave the beaches as one would like to find them.
Don't forget our Specials MAHIA WEEKEND and MAYOR ISLAND TRIP.
Both should be memorable events.
As promised in the Diary, information about camping at Thames. The only mod con is a toilet tent, your water requirements from the stream, take everything else you may require or it is back to nature. The property which belongs to one of our members is about 4 kilometres along a rough and twisty metalled road. To get on this road drive through Thames going north just into Tararu, turn right into Victoria Street and bear left, (don't go into Dicksons Motor Camp) through the ford and you are on the way. (Victoria Street is opposite a Senior Citizens' home.) If more than 4 or 5 units wish to camp there it would be advisable to leave your cars on the road in the lay-by just past the entrance to the property. It is, of course, possible to make this a day trip if you have no camping gear.

Personal Request. I am trying to collect together the last ten years of the N.Z. Naturist and if anyone has any copies of the magazine up to No. 80 and in good condition, I would like to purchase them for myself. Please contact me first before sending them.
Please don't forget to notify any change of address or telephone number
A big thank you to Ken for his work in revising the beach list and the compilation of the Diary. A big thank you also to Lois for her help at the Social which was a very pleasant evening. It was good to see many new faces amongst the regulars and where everyone enjoyed themselves.
Marian and I on behalf of your Committee wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Sunny New Year.

Yours sincerely,

A CONTRTBUTION FROM OUR CHAIRMAN ROBIN.  -  YOUR SUNTAN.
We hope to include with this mailing a copy of the Cancer Society publication "Sense in the Sun". Some of the facts in this may not be welcome, but I do hope that we will take notice and sunbathe wisely this summer. In the early days of nudism the health aspect of sunbathing was emphasised. Even today many clubs include the word 'sun' in their names. This was reasonable in Europe, where many people exposed only a few square inches of skin to the open air, and sunshine was rare enough in any case. But in New Zealand, with present clothing styles, it is all to easy to get excessive ultra-violet. The main justification for nudism - apart from swimming - is that it is pleasant, enjoyable and psychologically right. These reasons are strong and sound. There are many opportunities for nudism out of the midday sun, early morning and evening swims, runs along the beach, saunas and swim nights, games such as tennis and table tennis. One might hire gymnasiums for basket ball and other games.
So sunbathe carefully and acquire a light tan: but if you must be exposed to the midday sun, use a good suntan cream. And of course this is much easier without togs, which are easily spoilt by creams and lotions. Happy nudging!

Robin.
